A fire that broke out at the Holy Cross Children’s Home on Saturday, July 18, burned the possessions of young girls who were staying on the second storey. The home is now asking for help from the community.
Several items of children staying in the area where the fire broke out were lost along with clothing, bedding and other toiletry items.
No injuries were reported from the incident but the children have since had to be moved to temporary centres by the Department of Social Development until the fire damage is repaired.
Community members with bedding, clothing or toiletries to spare are being asked to donate what they can.
Those able to give something to the children in need are being asked to drop off donations at the centre at 301 De La Rey Street, Uitsig, Parow Valley, Cape Town.
The blaze required three teams to douse and could mean that the children will be displaced for an extended period while repairs are done.
