The City of Cape Town officially announced yesterday that access control will be implemented between 26 December and 1 January for motorists entering the Sea Point, Bantry Bay, Clifton and Camps Bay areas, as to alleviate the usual associated gridlock which happens every year during this period.

Control points will be set up on Somerset Road, Beach Road, Victoria Road, Houghton Rd & Kloof Nek Rd – motorists are encouraged to park in the CBD/Foreshore areas. Public transport has been recommended as a means of getting to the Atlantic Seaboard beaches.

“MyCiTi buses, minibus taxis, coaches and chartered public transport services will be given priority access to those points. Those who have visited the Atlantic Seaboard on these days will know that parking is very limited and it can take two to three hours to travel between Sea Point and Camps Bay by car,” said mayoral committee member for transport Brett Herron.

This is the first time that access control will be implemented on such a large scale in the city, and most of us will be waiting with baited breathe to see how it pans out. Kommetjie, anyone?

EmConradie SeanDLloyd Not too sure how they going to plan those logistics, but it sounds quite nightmarish either way for residents…

Hope this works as it is a nightmare already and hope I don’t have trouble trying to leave home and get back home daily for work! Just tried to do some food shopping the other day and pop in he bank, absolutely NO parking, had to abandon the entire trip! Feel like a cannot step out in Sea point, better off staying indoors where possible.
