Public health facilities in the City of Cape Town delivered 127 bundles of joy on New Year’s Day.

The first baby of 2021, in the City, was born at Mowbray Maternity Hospital at 12.47am, according to EWN. He was the first of 63 boys born on the day.

The second was a baby girl born at Karl Bremer hospital shortly after 1am. In total, 64 baby girls were born.

There was a single set of twins born in the City. The two girls were birthed at Tygerberg Hospital.

Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, the Western Cape Minister of Health, congratulated the families of the newly born babies.

Across the country, hundreds of families carried home healthy babies on the first day of the new year.

Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal welcomed the most babies, according to News24.

Facilities in Gauteng delivered 225 babies, compared to KZN’s 140.
