A man who is allegedly a City of Cape Town (CoCT) senior official appeared at the magistrate’s court in Mitchells Plain on Monday, June 22 on a charge of the rape of a 13-year-old girl.
The official, a 54-year-old male who cannot be named until he pleads in court, was formally charged and may apply for a bail application next week.
“The suspect has appeared and will be applying for a formal bail application. The matter has been postponed until June 29. He remains in custody,” said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk announced that the official was arrested on Friday, June 19 after the victim from Strandfontein reported the rape.
“Please be advised that a 54-year-old man was arrested on Friday in Strandfontein on a charge of rape where the victim is a 13 year old girl. The suspect is due to make a court appearance in Mitchells Plain today. The circumstances surrounding the case are still under investigation and further details cannot be disclosed at this stage.”
