On your marks, get set, get ready, and… the highly anticipated Comic Con Africa 2020 kicked off for the first time virtually, from Thursday, September 24 (Heritage Day), and will end on Sunday, September 27, 2020.
The largest online pop culture festival on the continent, Comic Con Africa has created a unique hub that will be the epicentre of all things Pop Culture. And this Con is entirely free to access!
Almost 6000 fans who have registered to attend and take part in this year’s reimagined version of Comic Con Africa will head over to www.comicconafrica.online to enjoy the Con.
Telkom VS Gaming, one of the lead sponsors of Comic Con, is equally thrilled that the Con will Go On. “These are exciting times for Comic Con fans and the Gamers in general. After a long wait, the Con is indeed continuing and this will mark a new era in the largest online pop culture festival on the continent and VS Gaming,” commented Wanda Mkhize, Telkom Executive Content and VS Gaming.
“Telkom VS Gaming is ready for this virtual chapter of Comic Con. Due to the nature of VS Gaming hosting online gaming leagues, presenting the Masters finals online is not new to us and we are therefore excited about bringing you the VS Gaming Masters CS:GO semi-finals and finals as well as the finals for the High school esport League (HSEL) for CS:GO and League of Legends; as added entertainment to an already jampacked On-Line Con,” says Mkhize.
This has truly been an exciting year with our launch of their first mobile gaming leagues on its new Telkom Plus platform. Furthermore, registrations for the e-Diski league contested on the FIFA game and played on the PlayStation console have been opened, with the finals scheduled for April 2021.
“We will proudly present the live online Masters for CS:GO and High School esports league (HSEL) this weekend at the Online Comic Con,” adds Mkhize.
The Main Stage features 14 film, series and entertainment celebrities such as Tom Hopper from the Umbrella Academy, Jason David Frank AKA Tommy from the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, Chandler Riggs who plays Carl in The Walking Dead, and Bret “The Hitman” Hart of WWE Fame, along with voice artists, Animetubers, and esports shoutcasters.
The Comics and Art planet plays home to 36 international and local comic artists, illustrators and writers. Battle Sketches, live draws, panels and Q&As will give insight into what it takes to be part of the industry.
Mkhize has encouraged all gaming enthusiasts to attend the Con this year to experience something new in the gaming world. “This is the first of its kind and you don’t want to miss it for the world.
Once signed in, the hub will open and visitors will find themselves in the Pop Culture galaxy especially created by Comic Con Africa. Much like the various halls at a physical convention, different planets will lead fans to different fandoms.
Best you get to www.comicconafrica.online and experience it for yourself!
