Convicted racist Vicki Momberg is in hiding from police after failing to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in August. The police reported that she is thought to be on the run after a warrant of arrest was issued.
Momberg was found guilty on four counts of crimen injuria in 2017 after calling a black police officer the k-word 48 times. This was after he tried to assist her in the aftermath of a smash-and-grab. The video of the incident went viral on social media.
She was sentenced to two years with another year suspended but only served four months before she was let out on bail while she waited for the outcome of her appeal. According to News24, her appeal was dismissed by the Gauteng High Court in June this year.
Following the court’s dismissal, she was given 30 days leave to submit her case to the Supreme Court of Appeal, but having failed to do so she was required to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. When she didn’t appear at the court, police began looking for her.
“Police are yet to locate and arrest Ms Momberg as per a warrant of arrest, after two known addresses were visited by the police more than once and Ms Momberg was not found at either of the addresses,” Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters told News24.
Despite the conviction, Momberg still claims she should not be considered guilty and has pleaded that she said the offensive phrase out of “temporary insanity”.
