A new milestone was reached in the number of coronavirus cases globally on Sunday, June 28 – there are now over 10-million people who have contracted the virus.
So far, 502 797 deaths have been recorded worldwide and 5 508 346 people have recovered. At home, the Western Cape is still the epicenter of the virus, although Gauteng is closing the gap quickly and is likely to be the province with the highest number of infections soon.
Premier Alan Winde said, a further 41 more deaths were recorded on Sunday [June 28] in the Western Cape, and there were a total of 15 822 active cases. The good news is 42 636 infected people have recovered.
Winde said, it is important to note that as the province moves closer to the peak and the Department of Health is recording over 1000 new cases daily, it is not possible to check and verify that the address data supplied for each new case is correct, within the time frames required to provide regular and timely updates.
