Here is a breakdown of the province’s COVID-19 figures:
- Total number of COVID-19 cases to date 293 013
- Total recoveries 277 632
- Total deaths 11 789
- Total active cases (currently infected patients) 3 592
- Tests conducted 1 626 038
- Hospitalisations 794, of which 182 are in high care or ICU
The Western Cape has also recorded 15 additional deaths since the last update on Wednesday, May 26, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province to 11 789. The province also introduced a system to manage walk-ins at vaccination sites, but encourage residents to wait for their second SMS which will start arriving in greater numbers. This comes after the scheduling system, managed through the EVDS and controlled nationally, has not worked as well as it should. This means that some residents have received SMSs at short notice, for places too far away from their homes, and many have not received any at all.
