The Western Cape has reported 2560 active COVID-19 infections, with a total of 289 188 people having been infected with Covid-19 and 274 938 recoveries as of May 13. A total of 84 092 vaccines received to date as part of the Sisonke trial have been administered by May 12, Premier Alan Winde reports.

Here is a breakdown of the province’s COVID-19 figures:
- Total confirmed number of people ever infected with COVID-19 in WC 289 188
- Total recoveries 274 938
- Vaccines administered 84 092
- Total deaths 11 690
- Total active cases (currently infected patients) 2560
- Tests conducted 1 571 720
- Hospitalisations 757, of which 155 are in ICU or high care
The Western Cape has recorded 5 additional deaths since the last daily update on Wednesday, May 12, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province to 11 690. Meanwhile, as part of the vaccine registration drive, the Premier also visited Shoprite at Watergate Mall in Mitchells Plain on Thursday, May 13, where he engaged with those over 60 who were registering themselves. Winde indicated that while there is not a ‘Third Wave’ yet, it is the first sign that a surge of infections is likely in the next few weeks.
