Cricket South Africa (CSA) is sure that the South African cricketers participating in this years Indian Premier League(IPL) will be back in the country by Thursday. This comes after the lucrative T20 tournament has been indefinitely suspended with immediate effect on Tuesday, May 4, due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 deaths and infections in India. According to EWN, the country of 1.3 billion people have reported 3,689 coronavirus deaths as of Sunday, May 2.


As reported by IOL, 11 players, along with the support staff contracted to various teams will be back in the country before the end of the week, where they will have 10 to 14 days to quarantine. AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Chris Morris, Quinton de Kock, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Gerald Coetzee are those that were involved in IPL. CSA said in a statement on Tuesday that it supports the decision to put the health and safety interests of all involved in the tournament, first.

The cricket body indicated that it has made contact with all of the relevant franchises to ensure the expedited travel of all South African players and support staff back to the country, Herald Live reported.


Meanwhile, India is also set to host the men’s T20 World Cup in October. It is alleged that the International Cricket Council(ICC) has already started looking at an alternative venue for the event, however, a decision will only be made later this month.
