The total capacity of dams supplying the Cape Town metro raised to 96.4% capacity, a 0.8% increase from the previous week.
While this increase is not that exciting, it is still much higher than last year’s reading reading at this time. In September 2019, dams were 81.8% full. In 2018 they were 69.7% and in 2017, a low 37.4% was recorded.
Most dams are almost completely full. The fullest are Berg River at 100.5%, Steenbras Lower at 99.9% and Steenbras Upper at 99.3%. All the other major dams are over 94% capacity.
However, the majority of dams have decreased. Last week, the top three fullest dams were each over 100% capacity.
The Western Cape is predicted to have three days of scattered showers this week, which could further increase dam levels.
