Residents of the City Bowl no doubt suffered flashbacks of the March 2015 Cape Fires when large sections of Devil’s Peak caught alight over the weekend.
Reports say around 70 firefighters and 15 firefighting vehicles responded to a fire on Table Mountain’s infamous peak on Saturday at around 21:30; working tirelessly through the night to put out the blaze.
Strong winds and dry conditions delayed the process of putting the fire out, with news that fires flared up again near De Waal Drive on Sunday afternoon. Sections of the road were forced to be closed to traffic.
No injuries have been reported, and our understanding is that no properties have been damaged, with the Devil’s Peak fire under control at this stage. De Waal Drive was also open to traffic by this morning, with road users now getting an up-close view of the aftermath of the fire:
