Pharmacy and beauty retailer Dis-Chem has now extended their Covid-19 vaccine service to include walk-ins, reports Business Insider.
Individuals will need to be registered on the Electronic Vaccination System (EVDS) before heading to their local Dis-Chem for their jab, with walk-ins accepted before 14:00.
According to the online publication, the pharmaceutical chain has been instrumental in the government’s Covid-19 vaccine rollout plan, with around 100 000 doses being administered across 14 sites in provinces such as Gauteng, Western Cape and the Free State.
South Africa’s Phase 2 rollout has seen an increase in demand at various Dis-Chem vaccination sites after the EVDS welcomed those aged 50 and above to register at the beginning of the month. However, with more than half a million individuals within this age group rushing to register on the EVDS, the initial launch date of July 15 was scrapped, with various sites being informed to accept walk-ins aged 50 and above.
“Dis-Chem welcomed a high proportion of uninsured patients across all our sites on Monday 5 July, which demonstrates the demand for vaccination by all South Africans and is an early validation of the latest policy change,” stated Dis-Chem CEO Ivan Saltzman.
