As the community becomes more accustomed to the idea of treating ailments with cannabis derived medicines, the demand for a convenient supply has prompted local pharmacies to stock up on their CBD offerings.

CBD has been recognised by the World Health Organisation as an effective treatment for a number of ailments including epilepsy. Along with the landmark ruling to decriminalise cannabis and allow private use, more people have been openly using CBD as a medicinal treatment.

CBD has become wildly popular in recent months, from being used in sweet treats to sushi and pizza, the uses are endless. South Africans are most commonly using the cannabis-derived compound for pain relief, inflammation, stress, lack of appetite and to aid with sleeping.

Up until recently, you could only get your hands on the compound either from dedicated stores, via online orders or a select stores around Cape Town but soon you will be able to buy it at chain pharmacies like Dischem and Clicks.

In an interview with Cape Talk, Anthony Cohen, CEO of Elixinol South Africa, said that both of these stores are following in the footsteps of Wellness Warehouse and will soon be rolling out a range of Elixinol CBD oil products countrywide.

As the demand for this wonder product increases, so do the business opportunities. More farms across the Cape are opting to grow cannabis for medicinal treatments. Just last month popular family destination Polkadraai strawberry farm was approved for cannabis production.
