Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says efforts are under way to reduce TB infections in children in the province.
Winde said this on Wednesday after visiting the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital (RCWMCH) in Cape Town as part of a TB awareness campaign.
“While most cases of childhood TB in the Metro region are diagnosed and treated at community TB clinics, some children require inpatient care because of the severity of their illness and because of other underlying condition,” Winde said in a statement.

He said that in 2020 alone, there were 217 children diagnosed with TB at the RCWMCH, at an average of 18 cases per month.
