Five assailants armed with knives and machetes attacked three victims during a robbery on farm in Paarl. The farm, located on Lustigan Road, was attacked on Monday evening.
It is reported that two of the three victims are elderly, and were assaulted before being bound. The Drakenstein Farm Watch reacted swiftly as soon as they heard about the incident, and South African Police Services arrived on scene shortly thereafter.
At approximately 9.30pm on Monday evening, a group of five attackers allegedly entered the main farmhouse, where an elderly couple and their daughter were spending their evening. When the attackers pounced, they tied the family down and ransacked their home.
Various items were stolen, including firearms.
The daughter was able to free herself and managed to alert the family’s neighbour, who is a member of the Drakenstein Farm Watch. Armed response team from the Watch were on the scene within minutes, and were later joined by other armed response teams from Fidelty and ADT.
Several housebreaking attempts were also reported in the Nieuwe Drift and Perdeberg areas of Paarl.
Officials from the Paarl Police Station also arrived on scene with the response teams.
