Nearly two years ago, we reported that the City was considering rolling-out a fleet of electric MyCiTi buses, and finally, the effort to make the transition from fuel-powered to electrically-charged vehicles is coming to fruition.
Today Brett Herron, Mayoral Committee Member for Transport & Urban Development, tweeted footage from Cape Town’s first electric bus.
We just tested the ride of the first electric @MyCiTiBus. Check the video – with sound on – you can hardly hear the bus! @BYDCompany ❤️ bus! pic.twitter.com/jKdXDZuXlH

Herron posted that is an extremely smooth ride, creating virtually zero noise. He also believes Cape Town will be the first city in Africa to use battery-powered buses for public transport.
