Eskom announced the good news that no load shedding will be implemented Sunday, December 13.

The South African power utility announced in a statement that its emergency generation reserves have sufficiently recovered overnight. This comes after Eskom had implemented Stage 2 load shedding on Saturday, December 12.

Eskom thanks the people of South Africa for their understanding and support during the most recent implementation of load shedding.

Despite the planned load shedding being canceled, Eskom urges the public to continue using electricity sparingly as the power system is still severely constrained.

“We currently have 8 229MW on planned maintenance, while another 10 661MW of capacity is unavailable due to unplanned maintenance. Eskom teams are working around the clock to return as many of these units to service as soon as possible,” The power utility company explained in a statement.

Eskom will continue to provide updates should there be any significant changes to the power system.
