Customers are being asked to be aware and report scammers after Eskom has discovered that criminals are masquerading as Eskom employees and demanding cash payments.
The power utility company posted warnings to their social media pages on Thursday, July 30 after it was revealed that some customers were being asked to pay in return for their power being reconnected.
Criminals reportedly approached customers and stated that they would require an upfront cash payment in order to repair, reconnect or replace equipment at their homes.
Eskom is urging locals to be aware that they will never ask for cash payments in return for these services as it is illegal and fraudulent.

Proof of payment can only be submitted to an Eskom Customer Service Hub.
The power utility company is asking customers to note that they will send reminders regarding payments and that all payments can be made online with the use of each customer’s electricity account number as a reference.
Residents are being asked to report criminals or suspicious individuals to the toll-free Eskom Crime Line at 0800 11 27 22.
