On Wednesday, January 29 two female tourists were threatened with a sharp weapon in broad daylight on a path on Signal Hill – mere metres from the parking area.
According to reports the incident took place at 9am on Wednesday morning on a path just above Signal Hill Road, approximately 100 metres from the Lion’s Head area where most visitors park their vehicles before hiking.
Two female tourists were sitting on the bench on the path when they were threatened with a sharp object to hand over their bags and cellphones, but the tourists ran down the mountain towards the Bo-Kaap and managed to escape the assailants.
“This office can confirm that a case of aggravated robbery has been registered for investigation at Cape Town Central SAPS. The two victims were approached by two unknown males in Signal Hill who threatened them with a sharp object. The suspects took their personal belongings and fled the scene. This incident is currently being investigated and no arrests have been made at this stage,” said SAPS spokesperson Mihlali Majikela.
