Emergency services and firefighters are on the scene of a huge fire that broke out at the Cape Point Nature Reserve this afternoon. The fire is being fanned by a strong south easterly wind, causing huge plumes of smoke.
At this stage, the cause of the fire in unknown and people at the reserve, as well as the accommodation at the Olifantsbos area, have been evacuated.
SanParks issued an alert on their Facebook page: Link Road in Cape Point is closed due to a fire in the area. Area has been cordoned off. Please refrain from any hiking activity until further notice
Working on Fire tweeted a warning to steer clear of the area. “A WOF chopper and WOF firefighters assisting at a fire that broke out along Link Road Cape Point. Please stay clear of the area.”
NCC Wildfires warned: Left flank burning towards old burn. Right flank is active and all crews are concentrating on this flank. 3 helicopters in the air with spotter. Wind is very strong.

Please note there is a fire in the nature reserve at the moment, we are operational as usual, if anything changes we will send out a notification.
