A fire has broken out above Tafelberg Road, on the slopes of Table Mountain. Vegetation is alight and Fire Services are attending to it, full closure of the road is in effect.
The City’s Fire and Rescue Service responded around 12:50pm. Since then the fire has jumped Kloof Nek Road towards Signal Hill.
“We currently have 19 firefighting appliances on scene, with seasonal firefighters also in attendance,” says the City.
The city has also confirmed that four dwellings that have caught alight in Trek Road.
The Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) says their two standby crews have also responded along with Working on Fire, City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service and Table Mountain National Park.
Aerial support was initiated but has since ceased due to windy conditions.
Kloofnek is closed at Bellevue towards Camps Bay. Drivers are urged to make way for emergency vehicles and to avoid the area much as they can.
