Two people have been treated for smoke inhalation following a fire that broke out on a section of the first floor of Cape Gate Mediclinic in Brackenfell on Monday night [October 12]. No other injuries have been reported.
Fire and Rescue Services received an emergency call at approximately 8pm, and firefighters from Kraaifontein, Durbanville, Brackenfell and Bellville were quick to arrive on the scene.
The fire was contained around 10pm on Monday evening. “What section and extent of damages will only be known once the fire has been completely extinguished”, said the City’s Fire and Rescue Spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse.
“A Fire Safety Inspector has been requested to ascertain the cause of the fire. The flames that was visible in the videos that are doing the rounds were in fact two water tanks at the side of the building that was also burning. The fire has been extinguished and crews manage to clear the smoke-logged areas,” added Carelse.
