A female firefighter lost her life battling a large vegetation fire on Table Mountain on Sunday. The 33-year-old is said to have died from a heart attack but nothing is conclusive at this stage.
Mayoral committee member for safety, security and social services JP Smith confirmed that she had died on the mountain this afternoon. She was rushed to Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital but could not be saved.
Firefighters have been trying to bring the blaze on Table Mountain under control since midday on Sunday.
