A fisherman has died and his son is missing after their boat got lost in heavy fog on Tuesday in Doringbaai on the West Coast, reports say.
EWN said dense fog forced fishing boats to return to shore but the father and son failed to return.
“Police and local fishermen recovered the body of the father, who was found washed ashore in amongst rocks north of Doringbaai. A search continued for the missing fisherman who is believed to be in his 30s, and the police diver has taken over in an ongoing search operation for the missing man” the report quoted the National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) Craig Lambinon as saying.
A News24 report said the NSRI received a call around 17:30 on Tuesday and were informed that the father and his son had gone missing.
It appeared the two didn’t have a cellphone or GPS onboard.
After a search throughout the night, their boat was found.
Police said they had opened an inquest case for further investigation.
