We understand that occasionally you have to leave the Mother City (sob) but on the bright side, Cape Town International is making your hours in the airport a little more enjoyable with its Flybrary.

The concept is simple: finished that John Grisham? Drop it off at the Flybrary and help yourself to another book – there are in the region of 6 000 to choose from. The project is all about paying it forward, and operates on an honesty system.

Open to the public as well as passengers, the Flybrary has dark-wood shelves and a mock fireplace, to really extend the cosy library feel. The first of its kind at any airport in the world, it was introduced as part of a R4 million project to up the ambience of CT International. Other features of the overhaul include a 58m mural of Nelson Mandela’s life story and a reconstruction of his cell on Robben Island.
