A FlySafair passenger died on an airplane bound for Cape Town from OR Tambo International Airport this morning before the flight took off.

As reported by IOL, Fly Safair’s Head of Sales and Distribution Kirby Gordon said the passenger looked unwell when he boarded the plane.

“He was boarding and at the door when the flight attendant asked him if he was okay. She sat him down on a chair not far from the door and turned to go and consult with the captain so that he could determine if the passenger was fine to fly,” Gordon said. “She had just taken two steps when he collapsed.”

According to Gordon, all flight attendants are trained in safety procedures, they immediately made use of life-saving interventions in an attempt to resuscitate the man. However, sadly their efforts proved unsuccessful and the passenger passed away.

“They were unfortunately unable to save his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those connected to him and with those who witnessed this tragic event. We would also like to say thank you to the other passengers for their patience,” Gordon said.

The remaining passengers were asked to disembark the aircraft in order for police to investigate the incident, and were placed on another plane.
