Metrorail has released CCTV footage of the suspected arsonists from the recent Cape Town train fires. SAPS is asking the public for any information regarding the incident to come forward.

The most recent attack took place on November 28, 2019. The released footage shows two suspects carrying a liquid that is assumed to be an accelerant on the day of the train fires. According to The South African, eyewitness reports stated that four people were behind the arson attacks.

Speaking to The South African, Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott said more footage will be made public once released by investigators.

“The investigation is progressing well and fresh images have been released to encourage more people to contact the investigation officer with information about several persons of interest who police believe can assist them in their investigation,” said Scott in a statement.

The suspects in this footage are two men. One was dressed in a navy blue tracksuit top with khaki pants and a maroon scarf around his face to conceal his identity. The other suspect wore a black, red and white top with cream pants.

Anyone with information or who is able to identify the suspects is urged to contact SAPS immediately. Prasa is offering a R100 000 reward for any information that leads to the conviction of the four people involved in the arson attacks.
