Zane Killian (39) appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 25 in connection with the killing of Anti-Gang Unit Lieutenant Charl Kinnear. Killian, who hails from Springs in Johannesburg’s east, owns a tracking and investigation company and is a former rugby player.
Kinnear, who was 52 years old at the time of his death, was shot and killed in front of his Bishop Lavis home on Friday, September 18.
Killian was arrested in Gauteng on Wednesday, September 23, and the prospect of more arrests has not yet been ruled out by the Hawks.
“He is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful interception of communication. The case has been postponed to October 5, 2020. The accused has not applied for bail yet but if he does, the State will oppose the bail application,” said Eric Ntabazalila, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson in a statement.
