Highbury Media’s Head of Digital Content, Mark Keohane, lauded Abarder’s standing within the South African media landscape, but more significantly his voice within the Western Cape.
“One of the biggest strategic drives for Cape Town Etc is to put the Etc into Cape Town, and no-one symbolises that Etc more than Gasant in his writing and his influence in this province of ours. He was always a strong presence when editing the newspaper institutions that are the Cape Times and the Cape Argus and was at the forefront of several inspiring social upliftment initiatives. Equally, he has always asked the hard questions of those who govern. His voice is a delight, whether he is making you laugh or making you ask questions of yourself,” said Keohane.
“Cape Town Etc recently appointed a very talented young editor in Robyn Simpson and introduced several exciting and talented voices on the platform. Having someone of Gasant’s stature will be an inspiration to this young team, as well as a treat for our readers.”
Abarder’s column will appear every Tuesday, starting on April 13.
