Many parents would argue that taking care of one baby is hard work, let alone 10. However, 10 newborns appear to be the case for a woman in Gauteng. IOL reported on this exclusive story earlier on Tuesday.
According to the online publication, Gosiame Thamara Sithole, who hails from Tembisa Township in Ekurhuleni, gave birth to her bundles of joy via a caesarean section in a Pretoria hospital last night.
The birth of the 37-year-old’s decuplets is certainly a first for the world, as Sithole has gone on to break the Guinness World Record, an honour previously held by Malian Hamila Cissé who gave birth to nine children in Morocco last month.
“It’s seven boys and three girls,” stated Teboho Tsotetsi, Sithole‘s husband.
“She was seven months and seven days pregnant. I am happy. I am emotional. I can’t talk much. Let’s talk again in the morning please,” continued Tsotetsi.
This is not the first time Sithole has given birth as she has two other children, a set of six-year-old twins. What makes this news even more remarkable is the fact that Sithole was not undergoing any fertility treatment when she fell pregnant.
The joyous news has even reached the ears of government officials, with spokesperson Phumal Williams commenting on the birth via social media. However, Williams has been asking for more information, as per EWN.
“We need to verify this story and provide assistance where needed,” said Williams.
