A number of Golden Arrow buses were torched and razed during a protest that caused havoc on Cape Town’s roads on Thursday, November 12. As a result, the bus service is offering a reward of R20 000 for any information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators who set three of its buses alight.
“We condemn this in the strongest possible terms. Our passengers need to get to work and the matric pupils making use of our services particularly need to be able to travel timeously and without hindrance,” said Golden Arrow Bus Service spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer to IOL. “We are appealing to anyone with any information to please come forward. They can call 0800 111167 anonymously.”
The protest action sprung up on the N2, resulting in the closure of the N2 between Borcherds Quarry and Macassar. Vehicles were stoned along Mew Way, and a truck was also set alight on Baden Powell Drive.
This year, Golden Arrow has lost 11 buses, and the damages have cost R2.4-million.
