The Gugulethu Clinic is temporarily closed after two alleged robbers were shot and killed on Tuesday, June 23. The duo allegedly held construction workers at gunpoint, demanding that they hand over their possessions. It was then when one of the victims allegedly fired shots at the suspects with his licensed firearm, which fatally wounded both men.
As reported by IOL, Western Cape police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi indicated that the Gugulethu police are now investigating the incident and have opened an inquest for further investigation while waiting for the ballistic report after a firearm was recovered on the scene.
Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town’s (COCT) Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Zahid Badroodien, adds that the latest shooting is in addition to the incidents that have already taken place at Weltevreden Valley Clinic, Crossroads 1 and Mzamomhle clinic. Badroodien says while the clinic has security guards, the facility should not be subjected to criminal activity. Badroodien further mentioned that the closure of the clinic is temporary while the COCT allow SAPS to conduct the investigation.
