South Africans woke up feeling hopeful this morning after the ANC recalled President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday. In further developments, news broke this morning that the net is closing in on the Gupta family. The Hawks raided the Gupta family compound in Saxonwald in northern Johannesburg earlier today and News24 have reported that one Gupta, as well as two associates have been arrested. There is no clear indication which Gupta it is yet.
The family have been linked to state capture which involves the president, Duduzane Zuma and several government ministers.
Reports suggest that the Hawks are also on the hunt for Duduzane, President Jacob Zuma’s son but no one has seen him in a while. He is being sought for his involvement in the failed Vrede dairy farm project where more than R200-million was syphoned off by Gupta-owned companies. It is unclear what charges will be brought against Duduzane.
In a press conference held yesterday, ANC Secretary General, Ace Magashule said that the ANC has recalled President Jacob Zuma. They have also called for Cyril Ramaphosa to step in as the next president of South Africa.
Magashule says they hope Zuma will respond to their decision soon.
