Chloe van der Westhuizen, the 4-year-old girl, who was struck in the head and lost her eye during a gang shooting in Hanover Park, has reportedly been discharged from hospital.
According to Daily Voice, her family said the bullet that maimed the little girl will remain in her body for the foreseeable future.
“Tears of joy flowed last week as the little girl from Algoa Court was discharged after undergoing surgery at Red Cross Children’s Hospital,” the report said.
Chloe was one of the five people who were shot and wounded when a gunman opened fire in Algoa Court in March.
The shooting sparked an outcry in the area, with residents gathering to pray for her, IOL reported at the time.
The Kingdom Christian Church, along with the Leon Jacobs Foundation and the Jacomus Foundation, hosted a service where they called on everyone to unite and pray for Chloe.
“We came out in our numbers to say, ‘listen Mr Gunman, and you that gave the instruction (to shoot), we want to send a strong message to all involved in this gang war, that life is about decisions and what you decide is what your life will be,” Pastor Leon Jacobs was quoted at the time.
