The first heatwave of the summer has arrived in Cape Town.
Today’s maximum temperature is expected to peak at 31°C, with cloud cover moving over in the afternoon, bringing along with it very warm and muggy conditions. Overnight the mercury will dip below the 20-degree mark with a low of 18°C, before it rises up to 34°C by tomorrow afternoon.
By Friday, the heatwave will remain in the Mother City as another high of 31°C will be felt. Saturday marks the decline of the heatwave, as a maximum temperature of 24°C is forecast along with the start of another spell of gale-force wind from the south-east. On Sunday, cooler conditions will prevail as the day-time high will remain stable at 25°C.
Meanwhile, heavy rains are occurring upcountry as flash flood warnings are being issued and dam levels there are already collectively at 75%.
