The second storey of the Holy Cross Children’s Home in Ravensmead was engulfed by flames on Saturday morning, July 18.
The City’s Fire and Rescue Services was alerted to the fire at 9.53am, with the team from Belhar fire station responding to the scene.
The intensity of the fire became increasingly severe and additional resources had to be called in from Kuils River, Goodwood and Landsdowne to assist in battling the blaze.
The flames was successfully extinguished at 12pm and no injuries were reported with all people from the home being accounted for.
The second floor of the home was heavily damaged by the flames. Onlookers managed to capture a video of the fire as it raged:
