Former President Jacob Zuma has been sentenced by the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) on Tuesday, June 29, to 15 months imprisonment for contempt of court.

Zuma’s sentence is unsuspended, which means he will serve jail time. Justice Sisi Khampepe indicated that”no one, absolutely no one, is above the law.” Meanwhile, Zuma has five days to hand himself over at Nkandla or at a Johannesburg police station. However, if he fails to comply, it’s then up to the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele to hand Zuma over to a correctional service facility.

Zuma becomes the second African leader to go to jail within a week after the former Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz was detained last week.

As always, South African’s have something to say. Here are some of the reactions from social media.
