There are a few stories that require a little more than a mere ‘thank you’ or social media shout out. However, this happens to be one such story.
You may recall that after months of roaming the streets and eluding capture, the Animal Welfare Society of SA finally managed to lure Lady Rosemead (Lady Rose for short) into a trap thanks to the help of a “secret weapon” – an irresistible Kentucky Fried Chicken drumstick that left her drooling for more.
“Her capture and our novel approach made for a great story and it wasn’t long before we received a call from 567 Cape Talk’s Kieno Kammies who applauded our efforts and wasted no time in introducing us to KFC’s Marketing Manager who unhesitatingly offered to climb on board and assist with Lady Rose’s rehabilitation”, says the Animal Welfare Society.
On April 22, KFC represented by their Western Cape Regional Manager and two local store managers paid Lady Rose a surprise visit.
They arrived bearing gifts of 2 huge buckets of Lady Rose’s favourite treat, 80 kilograms of dog food and presented the Society with a cheque for R7 000 to put towards her treatment costs.
When the KFC Team was introduced to Lady Rose she didn’t know whether to sit, stand or run around in excitement and seemed a little confused about the need for social distance. She wanted to be in on the action!
She expectedly sniffed the air and despite having been spayed the day before and still being under intensive treatment for Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumours pulled out all her recently learnt party tricks to impress in anticipation of being rewarded with a tasty piece of chicken.
“Lady Rose’s transformation into someone’s much-loved pet is now 100% assured and we would like to thank everyone, especially KFC and 567 Cape Talk Radio for climbing on board to help.”
If you would like to meet this special lady or better still offer her a loving forever home then please call our Animal Care Centre Supervisor Lawrence Nkotha on (021) 692 2626 – but be quick as this beauty is going to go fast.
