South Africa’s electricity woes are likely to continue on through the week and into the weekend, according to Eskom who say the power supply will be tight for the remainder of this week.

Despite a number of units working again, Eskom says there is still significant pressure on the power grid.

The country will continue with Stage 2 load shedding on Tuesday, July 14.

Eskom says not enough progress has been made to repair units and this means they are unable to suspend load shedding right now.

Most residents who have their electricity supplied by the City of Cape Town will also have Stage 2 load shedding from midday onwards. The news was announced via a Tweet from the City’s official Twitter account.

“Regrettably due to the ongoing constrained supply, cold weather and high demand, the City will be unable to protect customers from a stage of load-shedding after 12pm. As soon as the City is again able to generate excess power, it will assist its customers again.”

Eskom is asking consumers to use electricity sparingly especially during the cold weather. At this point there is no confirmation when load shedding will come to an end but the situation could change very quickly depending on Eskom’s ability to repair units.
