After a short period of stage 4 load shedding this week, Eskom has been incrementally decreasing the amount of load shedding over the past few days. Today, March 15, Eskom announced that loadshedding will be suspended from 12pm.
“Eskom will suspend loadshedding from 12.00. This is due to a much improved generation system performance, coupled with low weekend demand,” it said in a statement.
“Unplanned breakdowns were at 9 527MW as at 10.42 while planned maintenance outages were at 6 552MW.”
On Friday, March 13, they announced that load shedding would continue due to a blockage in the water pump caused by marine life, including fish and jellyfish. The cooling system was not functioning correctly as a result of this and Koeberg Unit 1 needed to be manually tripped.
In the statement Eskom said it expected Koeberg Unit 1 to be fully operational and returned to the grid by Sunday, March 15.
It seems its plans are in order, as load shedding has been suspended. Eskom has not confirmed whether there will be power cuts in the upcoming week.
