Stage 3 load shedding will be in effect today from 8am to 11pm across the country due to a shortage of working generating units.

In a social media post, Eskom explained that several generating units have broken down, prolonging the power cuts.

“Stage 3 load shedding was terminated at 10.14pm today and will resume… on Wednesday as a result of a shortage of capacity due to a number of generating units that are out of service due to breakdowns.”

Stage 3 load shedding means that 3000 MW is shed rotationally around the country at any given period “as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout”.

Locals are advised to treat all electrical points as live during load shedding.

“We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.”
