Police confiscated a significant stash of smuggled lobster tails hidden in a body bag in the back of a hearse in Gordon’s Bay on Thursday, November 5.

In total,  5441 West Coast rock lobster tails, worth approximately R544 000, were seized in the arrest and a 24-year-old man was apprehended, according to TimesLIVE.

Colonel Andre Traut, the provincial police spokesperson, explained that the arrest was the result of a tip-off.

“One of our members, who was previously stationed at the K9 unit in Cape Town and is now based in Gauteng, received a tip-off and alerted an official at DAFF [the department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries], who made the arrest and the discovery,” said Traut on Friday.

The suspect will make a court appearance in Strand soon.
