New directives regarding the clothing items locals can purchase under level 4 lockdown have been gazetted. A selection of items have been outlined as the essential clothing and bedding goods residents may buy during this level of the lockdown.
Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Ebrahim Patel, in cooperation with the Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs and the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, announced a number of clothing items that the public will now be allowed to buy during lockdown level 4.
According to the new directions, the following categories of clothing and footwear and bedding are permissible for sale by retailers during Alert Level 4 in terms of Part E of Table 1 of the Regulations:
All baby and toddler clothing and footwear, as well as children’s wear – this includes, outerwear, underwear, sleepwear, school wear and school shoes, footwear, socks and related accessories. All maternity wear, all adult sleepwear and gowns and all adult underwear.
With regards to adult footwear boots, slippers, closed-toe heels, closed-toe flat shoes, sneakers and trainers, smart closed-toe shoes and casual closed-toe shoes.
In the adult outerwear category residents my purchase active wear, including gym, running and other exercise apparel, knitwear, jackets and coats, dresses, long-sleeved tops, long sleeved t-shirts, denim jeans and denim jackets, pants, skirts, short sleeved knit tops, where promoted and displayed as worn under cardigans and knitwear, short sleeved t-shirts, where promoted and displayed as under garments for warmth, leggings, crop bottoms worn with boots and leggings, shirts, either short- or long-sleeved, where displayed and promoted to be worn under jackets coats and/or knitwear, golf shirts or one-pieces such as bodysuits.
Accessories that may be purchased include: shawls and scarves, beanies, gloves, socks, belts, headwear, gym and exercise apparel accessories and hair accessories.
Some bedding may also be purchased under lockdown level 4 this includes, baby bedding and blankets, duvets, duvet inners, blankets, comforters, quilts, mattress protectors, pillows, throws, sheets and pillow cases and electric blankets.
These items are officially considered essential under lockdown level 4 restrictions and as of the gazette on May 12, South Africans are allowed to purchase them.
