The Level 4 lockdown announcement made by South African president Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday, June 27, will see many establishments shut down operations for at least 14 days, from Monday, 28 June until July, 11.
The new regulations, as outlined by the president, have been gazetted. The new curfew is now in effect from 9pm to 4am.
Businesses who form part of temporarily closing their doors include:
- casinos
- cinemas
- gyms and fitness centres
- night clubs
- taverns and shebeens (except for food deliveries and takeaways)
- restaurants (except for food deliveries and takeaways)
- conferencing exhibition and entertainment facilities
- theatres
- museums, libraries, archives and galleries
- auctions
According to News24, flea markets and bazaars are also prohibited to slow the spread of Covid-19. All related gatherings such as conferences, exhibitions and entertainment will not be allowed.
Holiday venues like hotels, lodges and B&Bs may only continue operation at a 50% capacity while offering room service and food deliveries only.
While schools and higher education institutions that offer contact classes are set close from June 30, early development centres can remain open, News24 adds.
All gatherings are prohibited apart from attending funerals, being at work and going shopping while travelling in and out of Gauteng for leisure is strictly prohibited from today as well.
The imposed regulations will be reviewed after two weeks.
