Western Cape police have arrested a man, 58, after he was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed battle rifle.
According to News24, the man was arrested at his home in Graafwater on Saturday.
He is one of six people who were arrested during police operations over the Easter weekend in which drugs as well as unlicensed fire arms and ammunition were uncovered.
The man is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
Incidents like this are not new in the Western Cape. In January, eight people were held after police seized six stashed fire Arms.
IOL reported at the time that members of the Fish Hook police noticed a suspicious minibus.
“The vehicle and the occupants were searched, which resulted in the discovery of six unlicensed firearms and ammunition hidden in a concealed compartment in the vehicle,” Traut said.
The eight suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested.
