Motorists are urged to be vigilant when travelling on the R300 following an attack on Monday evening in which a rock was thrown onto a man’s car windscreen while he was driving.

Speaking to IOL, the 29-year-old survivor from Mitchells Plain said that he had to be hospitalised after the incident.

“He had dropped some workers off in Delft and was on his way home,” the father of the victim said. “He says at about 7.30pm just after the Stock Road turn-off while travelling towards Jakes Gerwel Drive, he saw two males on the left-hand side of the road. He saw the one taking aim and a brick came straight through the windscreen and hit the driver’s side window. He tried to evade them, but the brick hit the car. Luckily he was smart enough to drive on and not stop there.”

The shaken motorist continued driving home, and did not stop by a police station along the way.

“We took him to hospital where they had to remove pieces of glass from his hand. He was discharged, but is still in pain. We called it into the Metro Police control room to alert them about the attack,” his father said. “It could have been fatal and throwing bricks is probably their modus operandi to try and get motorists to stop.”

He added that the area is very dark at night, and that other motorists should be very cautious when driving there.
