A security guard was killed during a cash-in-transit heist at a shopping centre in Welgelegen on Thursday morning [September 3].
The incident occurred at around 6.45am, according to News24. The security guard was in the cash-in-transit van waiting for colleagues to fetch cash from a store in the shopping centre, when suspects opened fire and shot him. He attempted to escape but ended up crashing through a garage of a nearby residential home.

According to the police’s Brigadier Novela Potelwa: “Police have launched a manhunt for several suspects who took money from a supermarket in Welgelegen. The suspects fled in a black [Opel] Corsa bakkie and a white VW vehicle. Cases of murder, attempted murder and business robbery are currently being investigated.”
