The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has announced the official release dates for the 2018 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam results in an official statement.
The WCED said in the statement, “Schools and candidates in the Western Cape will … receive their results on January 4 2019.”
Provincial and national results for the NSC exams are expected to be released by the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, on January 3 2019.
Schools can collect results from the district offices in the morning on January 4 2019, and are required to check the results for any errors.
Matric students can get their own NSC exam results from the offices on the same day from 11am, an hour earlier than initially stated by the WCED.
“The Western Cape Education Department has decided to release the results an hour earlier to make it easier for Muslim candidates to attend Friday prayers.”
The WCED explained why learners must wait until the following day after the announcement made by Motshekga to receive results.
“This is done for a number of reasons which include giving principals the opportunity to examine their results and to pick up any errors that may have occurred, or to alert the WCED regarding a candidate that may be disappointed by their results and require counselling,” said the WCED.
Candidates can additionally access their individual results online on January 4 2019 from 2pm on the Western Cape Government website.
To obtain their results, students must enter their examination and identify numbers on the site.
Any queries regarding results must be submitted for investigation within 30 days of the release date and sent to [email protected].
The press will release the 2018 NSC examination results at 6am on January 5 2019.
An awards ceremony to acknowledge outstanding the candidates of the NSC examination will take place on January 10 2019 in Leeuwenhof.
The majority of matric students are writing their final exams on November 26 2018.
The department is encouraging matric students to be available until December 6.
“This is a reminder that candidates are required to be available up to the 6th of December 2018 for any eventuality – such as the need to rewrite a paper.”
