A man and a woman died in a fire that also destroyed two homes and a car in Woodlands, Mitchells Plain in the early hours of Wednesday, May 26, reports say.

News24 said it remained unclear what caused the fire.

City of Cape Town firefighters were summoned to the blaze in Sandury Road at 00:26 on Wednesday, the report said.

“When firefighters arrived, they found informal structures on fire but managed to contain and extinguish the blaze by 1:42am. Two Wendy houses were destroyed and a motor vehicle damaged in the fire,” IOL quoted Spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service, Jermaine Carelse as saying.

“The bodies of the man and woman were found in one of the structures. Fire Service medics declared them deceased and the scene was handed over to the South African Police Service,” Carelse said.

Police said the man was aged 34 and the woman was 30.
